Although The Witcher 4 remains years off, good tidings await fans of the book series that inspired the games: new stories are on the horizon.
The release timeline for The Witcher 4 remains ambiguous, mirroring the industry’s fast-paced evolution in recent times; however, CD Projekt Red has explicitly stated that the next installment will be “the most ambitious” project undertaken by the studio thus far? Manufacturing is expected to commence within the next year at a minimum, with the hope that it will not be more than a few years away. Despite being nearly a decade old, contemplating The Witcher 3’s upcoming sequel is still an exciting prospect for fans of the action-packed role-playing game. Fans of The Witcher series can rest assured that a significant number of devotees will likely emerge from both in-game and literary circles; for those who have ventured further to read the original novels, however, the author has a delightful surprise in store: another book has been completed.
According to PC Gamer, Andrzej Sapkowski recently spoke with French fantasy magazine Chimères, revealing that he has no immediate plans for new content in the series. However, he has just completed work on his latest Witcher novel. “When I’ve finished the guide,” he stated. Sapkowski’s work on The Witcher series reached a conclusion roughly two years after its inception, culminating in a technical completion of the book series in 1999. However, he revisited Geralt’s world again in 2013, crafting an additional installment that fell between the original story’s narrative arcs. At Warsaw Comic-Con in 2018, Sapkowski revealed that the series’ story is complete; it’s likely that this upcoming guide will bridge narrative gaps and provide further insight into the world of The Witcher.
According to Sapkowski, he plans to publish the book in his native Poland in 2024, followed by a global release in 2025, indicating that fans can expect a relatively short wait before returning to the world of The Witcher. Let’s simply hope it won’t be 2030 when The Witcher 4 is released, though we all suspect it might actually be.
