Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero has surprisingly become a fashion trend among its devotees; however, it appears poised to reap an unforeseen level of profitability.
Dragon Ball: Sparking!’s clarity has always been unmistakable. Despite being the first new entry in several years, Zero’s execution exceeded expectations, surprising fans of the beloved Budokai franchise with its impressive delivery. The game achieved an impressive milestone of 100,000 concurrent gamers shortly after its release, a testament to its strong appeal in the fighting game genre. And now, it appears that the success of this endeavor has far exceeded initial expectations. In an interview with GamesRadar, Mat Piscatella, government director and video games analyst at Circana, revealed that the outcome is even more impressive than initially thought. While Zero has enjoyed immense popularity, it’s reasonable to assume it ranks among Bandai Namco’s top-grossing titles of all time, if not entirely outdo others in terms of sheer sales volume.
Piscatella expressed astonishment at Dragon Ball’s unexpected success: “I’m as shocked as anyone – not just because it’s the best-selling Dragon Ball sport, but to be among Bandai Namco’s all-time top sellers.” He noted that the company has had significant hits over the years, with Elden Ring being one of its biggest. Among many notable labels, zero is also known by a single other significant title. As Piscatella spoke, a hint of surprise crept into his tone: “I wasn’t expecting this.”
The show’s nostalgic value was undeniable, allowing fans to deeply engage with its extensive array of iconic characters and intellectual property, thereby fostering a rich exploration of its complex history. Although I’ve never seen the show myself, I’m aware that many people are passionate about Dragon Ball. I can understand why you’d describe it as a wonderful surprise in an otherwise challenging year.
With the sad news of creator Akira Toriyama’s passing earlier this year, fans were inundated with nostalgia, as a new anime series also premiered, filling the air with renewed enthusiasm and affection for the beloved franchise. And it helps that Sparking! Zero was actually good too.
