As the PlayStation 2 classic gets a fresh new spin with its recent remaster, it’s time to let go of concerns about whether friends or family members will join you in this retro gaming experience – anyone can be “The Factor” now.
After releasing the highly anticipated System Shock remake last year, Nightdive Studios announced in June this year that it was working on a remaster of The Thing, a PS2 game initially developed by Human Head that served as a sequel to John Carpenter’s 1982 film of the same name, based on the novella Who Goes There? Although initially planned for a 2024 release, doubts arose as the year’s end approached, leaving uncertainty surrounding its launch date – until last night, when Nightdive Studios surprised everyone by releasing the remaster. The sport is accessible across a wide range of platforms, including PlayStation 4 and 5, Xbox One and Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam, GOG, and Humble. You are spoiled for selection!
“Notably, Nightdive Studios has painstakingly refined character aesthetics, textures, and movements through meticulous craftsmanship, while elevating graphics capabilities via cutting-edge 3D rendering techniques that deliver unparalleled lighting and atmospheric effects.” “The remastered sequel delivers a gripping experience, reviving the excitement of the original with meticulously recreated gameplay and visuals that immerse players in the world of Captain J.F.” As leader of a special forces rescue unit stationed in Antarctica, Blake embarked on a mission to unravel the mystery surrounding Outpost 31.
The community’s paranoia also extends to a complex belief system; if your party becomes overly suspicious of you, they might even attack you, mistakenly perceiving you as The Cause, or worse, mistaking other NPCs for the actual threat. I’m intrigued by this innovative concept, which unfortunately had some limitations when applied to its specific genre – occasional soft locking at certain points hindered the experience. Now, I’m keenly anticipating whether Nightdive has successfully ironed out these issues.
