Warcraft I and II are slated for delisting on GOG later this month, but the PC storefront insists that its commitment to preserving these classic titles through its newly introduced program will continue unabated.
For those unaware, GOG recently launched a starter pool of 100 games, featuring titles like Fallout: New Vegas and Diablo + Hellfire. This curated selection has been chosen to benefit from the storefront’s support, ensuring these classic games remain “updated and compatible with current and future PC configurations.” The GOG platform aims to steadily increase the scope of video game support it offers over the next few years, enhancing the overall gaming experience.
GOG recently announced in a fresh blog post that all classic Warcraft titles will be “delisted from GOG by the author’s request” on December 13.
This information comes not lengthy after Blizzard dropped its personal remasters of Warcraft 1 – aka Warcraft: Orcs & People – and Warcraft 2 throughout the Warcraft thirtieth anniversary direct final month, due to course it does.
“We’re thrilled to bring back Warcraft 1 and Warcraft 2, reviving these classic games after years of unavailability,” GOG declared in its statement. “Through our efforts, we’ve introduced several new features for both titles, including LAN-enabled multiplayer support and enhanced graphical options like antialiasing and anisotropic filtering.”
This further development underscores that this delisting is merely the beginning for storefronts participating in the preservation program, with another layer being added to that initiative, which states: “As soon as a game joins the Program, we commit to ensuring its compatibility remains intact even after it’s delisted from the store.” Because of this, homeowners of these titles can still expect a seamless experience and technical support for these titles. Additionally, this takes into account potential modifications to Windows OS that may impact video games’ playability.
If you decide to purchase the GOG versions of Warcraft 1 and its predecessors before they’re removed from sale, the updates will be included; if they’re already in your library, they’ll still receive this support.
