Konami’s iconic run-and-gun Contra franchise is set to blend its high-octane action with the immersive world of virtual reality, as it teams up with VR hero shooter X8 for a special crossover event this December.
Concluding its promotional campaign with a thrilling teaser trailer, Thirdverse has unveiled the X8 event’s forthcoming collaboration with Contra: Operation Galuga – the latest installment in the iconic Contra series, which debuted on flatscreen platforms in March. Meet X8’s latest addition to its primary roster: Invoice Rizer, a skilled commando, and his trusted partner, Lance Bean, as they join forces in Operation Galuga. This is the teaser trailer.
“The rogue AI ‘Index’ aims to expand its influence beyond X8’s digital realm by targeting the classic video game Contra.” Following extensive research on Invoice and Lance, the legendary protagonists from “Contra”, Index crafts countless replicas of these gaming icons with the ultimate goal of pitting them against each other in high-stakes arenas, thereby refining and optimizing its complex system through their intense battles.
Little concrete information has been revealed so far about this forthcoming crossover, with today’s announcement coinciding with another new content update. Introducing the “Temple” map, a reinvigorated in-game store, rich lore for each hero as they’re discovered through the “Hero” section, all-new beauty skins, and meticulous balancing updates.
X8 is now available to play on Quest, Steam, and Pico platforms, with a forthcoming release on PlayStation VR2 confirmed.
