The Virtuix Omni One, a highly anticipated virtual reality treadmill designed for built-in residential use, is set to start shipping in September, according to the company.
Omni One was first announced four years ago, with a planned launch for late 2021; unfortunately, this timeline has not been met.
Unlike earlier VR treadmill options, the Omni One stands out as a fully integrated solution, featuring a built-in VR headset and access to a curated library of content, carefully designed in tandem with the treadmill’s unique architecture.
The initial plan for the VR headset was to be called Pico Neo 2, but due to the significant delay in the Omni One’s release, it will now be marketed as the Pico 4 Enterprise, a premium variant featuring advanced eye and facial monitoring capabilities, as well as increased RAM for improved performance.
To avoid confusion, Pico 4 Enterprise will not operate Pico’s platform or retail channels directly. Here is the rewritten text:
As a complementary option, the Virtuix platform features the Omni Retailer, a dedicated space where VR developers can seamlessly integrate support for the treadmill using Virtuix’s Software Development Kit (SDK).
Virtuix reveals that the Omni Retailer will initially feature more than 50 video games, including Alvo, Historic Dungeon, Breachers, Demise Horizon: Reloaded, Drop Dead: The Cabin, Dyschronia: Chronos Alternate, Ghostbusters: Rise of the Ghost Lord, Hubris, Ilysia, In Death: Unchained, Journey to Foundation, Peaky Blinders: The King’s Ransom, Propagation: Paradise Lodge, Ruinsmagus, Sniper Elite VR, Survival Nation, The Exorcist: Legion VR, and Wanderer: Fragments of Destiny.
It’s essential to acknowledge that Virtuix’s terminology for the Omni One, referring to it as a “treadmill,” is fundamentally misleading and inaccurately conveys its capabilities. There’s no transferring belt in place here. While carving turns and gliding along a skatepark’s surface, skaters don specialized footwear that effortlessly glides across a concave disk-like foundation. A matching harness securely attaches to their arm, keeping them stable as they shift their feet, allowing for smooth, controlled movements. These ancient devices are commonly referred to as slipmills.
The Omni One is expected to retail for $2,595, encompassing the headset, controllers, and treadmill within its comprehensive package. The system is readily accessible within the continental United States, allowing for convenient ordering, and may be preordered with an initial deposit of $200. Virtuix assures that the deposit is fully refundable, and you’ll receive an email link to pay the remaining $2,395 once your unit is ready for shipment.
