Vimeo has launched an Apple Imagination Professional app, offering native support for Apple’s innovative spatial video format. Users can now seamlessly import content from their iPhone devices.
Vimeo establishes itself as a leading platform for facilitating spatial video content, specifically stereoscopic 3D video that adheres to Apple’s HEVC Stereo Video Profile standard.
Spatial video capabilities will be integrated across all iPhone 16 models, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro series and Apple Vision Pro itself. With the release of this innovative technology, creators can seamlessly upload spatial movies to Vimeo via their preferred platform: the iOS app, visionOS app, or Vimeo’s web interface – with all content effortlessly organized and showcased within the new Vimeo visionOS app.
To showcase its brand-new functionality, Vimeo has created a visually stunning spatial video short film called “Currents,” which will be available for Imagination Pro users starting November 11.
While it’s currently possible to upload spatial videos to YouTube by converting them into common SBS (Side-by-Side) 3D using an iPhone app like Spatialify, Vimeo does not accommodate this extra step.
As immersive technologies rapidly evolve, iPhones and augmented reality headsets will no longer be the sole gateway to entering the realm of spatial video formats. Later this year, Canon is set to introduce a groundbreaking “spatial lens” attachment specifically designed for its EOS R7 cameras, enabling professional-grade spatial video capture of unparalleled quality.

Apple announces the upcoming release of an advanced version, featuring enhanced support for editing 3D videos and introducing “immersive title sequences and effects”.
