If you prefer the thrill of air travel over mountain climbing or horseback riding, and are keen to explore new experiences in The Witcher 3 through its versatile REDkit modding tools, you’re in for a treat. You can embark on an exhilarating adventure as part of the massive new quest mod, where you’ll pilot Geralt on a thrilling journey to a mystical island via a scorching hot air balloon ride.
As far as I am aware, excluding some obscure pre-REDkit mod that I appear to be neglecting and a search hasn’t yielded any results, so in that case I’ll be able to sustain my trusty silver sword-wielding abilities – this is the first time someone’s managed to pull off letting you travel around in such a vehicle in TW3. RedKit has enabled others to potentially commandeer a full-scale vessel, amid numerous concerns, this seemingly represents the latest and most astonishing issue.
In “Track of Wind”, a challenge created by modder RoiJean, Geralt embarks on a hunt for Whispering Island, an enigmatic location shrouded in mystery, with its secrets unknown to anyone. Dubbed the Whispering Island, its enigmatic aura effortlessly fits every cryptic box associated with this mystical destination.
RoiJean notes that the mod is “conceptualized as a novel mini-‘growth'” with just its first two quests currently available due to the desire to meet the CD Projekt modding competition’s deadline, which prompts creators to craft an adventure comprising 2-3 interlinked quests that tell their own personal story.
The teaser above may tantalize your curiosity, or you can explore the full showcase of the two missions currently available to avoid spoilers – as I am exclusively linking to if you need to preview without giving away too much. In response to its creator, Track of Wind employs a unique combination of customized voice acting for its new non-player characters and spliced-together lines from the base game for Geralt’s dialogue. As the world has evolved, my initial reaction upon discovering this phenomenon was: “Please tell me this won’t mar the unique ‘cool factor’ of some AI voices, but luckily, it seems I’ll be spared from such disappointment.”
Upon completing the mod’s second quest, where Geralt journeys to the enigmatic island aboard a “wind vessel” with a professor, you are instantly transported back to Novigrad, marking the starting point for this engaging Stage 50 mini-adventure.
In reality, this isn’t the ideal conclusion RoiJean envisions. “I’ve yet to develop the story’s climax due to my entry being submitted to the Redkit modding competition. Although I have the entire narrative mapped out in my mind, I had to rush the conclusion to meet the deadline. Hopefully, I’ll have the opportunity to complete it in the future.”
While considering whether a particular value deserves further attention, one key metric to monitor is its potential for growth and development, regardless of initial impressions. Would Geralt of Rivia, renowned for his pragmatism and problem-solving prowess, bother with an air balloon journey that seems to defy the laws of physics, only to discover a makeshift solution as he would with Portals, or would he find a more practical means of transportation? Lety us know beneath.
