Typically, when an improvement studio decides to release a secondary feature while still actively working on a flagship game, especially a Kickstarter-backed MMO, this approach tends to be met with underwhelming enthusiasm, sometimes even resulting in catastrophic failure for the team. As Icy North Games, the independent studio behind the crowd-funded massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), prepares for the release of a novel feature within its ongoing development cycle.
The intergalactic survival game is dubbed, a thrilling single-player and cooperative roguelike experience where players must persevere against hordes of enemies on the unforgiving terrain of. The sport boasts a retro-fresh aesthetic, reminiscent of 64-bit games from the ’90s, with a range of heroes to play and unlock, quests to complete, leisure activities such as fishing and cooking available in an expansive hub area, and diverse skills to discover on each playthrough.
In response to the Discord announcement, Icy North’s team worked on this smaller challenge in their spare time, ensuring that development won’t divert attention away from larger projects; sales of the former will actually support the growth of the latter, familiar to some of our regular readers who may see similarities between the two.
As the topic was discussed within the sport’s Discord group, reaction was subdued, with only a few emojis used in response, many of them being thumbs down, a stark contrast to the sport itself, which has received two consumer reviews, roughly equivalent to the all-time player count at the time of writing.
The inaugural Kickstarter campaign, launched at the end of February 2020, unfortunately coincided with poor timing and was subsequently canceled. However, the subsequent attempt fared better, garnering just over $25,000 from enthusiastic supporters.
We’ve recently embarked on a small feature challenge, which we’ve been actively working on in our free time.
