For two decades, the identity of the woman behind EVA’s iconic persona had remained an intensely guarded secret. Suzetta Miñet, a pseudonym for a renowned voiceover artist, has been credited with the role in the highly anticipated remake’s promotional material, as revealed by a new video from Konami.
The third installment of the Steel Gear Solid Legacy series, presented by voice icon David Hayter, uncovers a fascinating fact: actress Jodi Benson, renowned for her role as Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid, is the talented individual behind EVA, also known as Tatyana, in. She’s most renowned for her portrayals of Ariel in Disney’s The Little Mermaid and Barbie in Pixar’s Toy Story franchise. In a conversation with Hayter and Lori Alan, the voice actress behind the Boss, Benson highlighted the significance of determination as the driving force behind her decision to pair up with a pseudonym for her role, an insight shared with the sports’ voice performance director.
As Benson’s professional commitments were deeply rooted in her personal life, voice performing director Kris Zimmerman suggested she adopt a pseudonym to separate her public and private personas.
When our director sat down with me, they suggested that my identity might need a change. So she asked me, ‘What was your childhood dog’s name?’ And I replied, ‘Suzette Monet.’ Then she said, ‘Wait a minute,’ Let’s construct on that. How about Suzetta? As an homage to Claude Monet, let’s do what Miñet did. And honestly, I used to think it seemed like a done deal.
The revelation surrounding Suzetta Miñet’s alternate persona did not come as a shock to Benson, Zimmerman, and the rest of their vocal ensemble alone. According to earlier events in the Benson narrative, seven years prior, at an unidentified gathering where “we congregate and mingle with esteemed admirers,” someone discreetly handed Benson a counterfeit of this item, seemingly intended for her to recognize as a signal. As she remembered, she asked herself, “Why did he bring this to me?” “’Are you aware that since you’re in it,’ I asked him, ‘do you understand what’s going on?’” As he leaned in, I whispered, ‘Are you aware of my deep, darkest secret?’ He smiled and said, ‘I’m listening.’ I urged him to keep silent, his eyes locked onto mine.
As Benson’s work proceeds without the voice of EVA. The developers, comprising diverse team members, have been recording fresh tracks for an upcoming remake that remains undated, slated for release on PlayStation 5, Windows PC, and Xbox Series X.
