There’s a new trailer out for the online game anthology collection Secret Stage, which already feels peculiar given Harmony’s unexpected appearance amidst it all.
Prime Video has unveiled a sneak peek at its upcoming series, Secret Stage, which will premiere next month. Besides its clumsy tone, the passage is marred by self-aggrandizing hype (“groundbreaking gaming anthology collection”, “a revolutionary gaming anthology collection” – a bit of an overstatement). The redeeming aspect is that it’s all “impressed by your favorite video games.” The sole drawback lies in the inclusion of a Harmony episode, which becomes problematic since the studio behind it no longer exists, effectively rendering Harmony obsolete. While the trailer does have a loyal fan base, I’m still uncertain if that particular approach was their strongest move.

On top of that, it feels cheeky to employ this line when there’s an episode based on New World: Aeternum, which undeniably exists since it’s an Amazon-developed game – currently the action MMO is earning a mixed score on Steam across nearly 250,000 reviews over the past three years. Isn’t it true that sports preferences are highly subjective and often influenced by personal experiences and cultural background? Despite initial reservations, the trailer surprisingly showcased a few memorable snippets from iconic video game franchises, including Armored Core, Unreal Tournament, Mega Man, Spelunky, and Warhammer 40,000.
The event also boasted a star-studded lineup, featuring A-listers such as Keanu Reeves, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Kevin Hart, among many others. As of now, Secret Stage is poised to premiere on Prime Video on December 10, with additional installments rolling out through December 17; unfortunately, this means you won’t be able to binge-watch it in one sitting. I’m skeptical about this selection’s performance; it appears to feature some familiar titles, but overall, the roster falls short of my expectations.
According to a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Secret Stage creator Tim Miller believes that the Harmony episode showcases the potential of the world and characters, suggesting that future episodes might reveal this potential further.
