As the United States navigates the aftermath of a Trump presidency, the landscape will likely be shaped by the culmination of four years marked by controversy and unpredictability. I can’t. Will game development fundamentally change in 20 years? It’s uncertain whether the industry will maintain its current form; instead, corporations might opt for mass layoffs, allowing AI-driven content to dominate the market, replacing human creativity with algorithmically generated mediocrity. Like Prepared Participant One, yet even more cunning in their approach.
While some might assume that Icelandic game developer CCP Games is on the brink of creating unoriginal, soulless content, their creative approach suggests otherwise. The once-independent developer, now with a reputation for fairness, has ambitious plans for 2028, as revealed by recent visits to its London offices.
Alongside EVE Online, which CCP has been cultivating for a remarkable 21 years, the studio has another significant project in the works – EVE: Vanguard, an MMOFPS poised to revolutionize our understanding of both genres. The daring technique, though unorthodox, seems to have won over the studio’s confidence.
The CCP’s tentative framework for Vanguard discharge construction exudes a greater sense of confidence. According to Emily Akland, senior model supervisor for EVE Vanguard, and Scott Davis, lead product supervisor at CCP London, the projected launch and rollout schedule for Vanguard is as follows:
- 2024 – Founder’s entry
- 2025 – Early entry
- 2027 – International launch
- 2028 – Console rollout
The definition of the sport has evolved over time, with changes in rules and formats allowing for new styles and interpretations. Despite the fact that this information was freely and openly disclosed to me and multiple journalists at a CCP Games media event, its timing suggests a long-standing plan by the studio. The plan is to revitalize the studio’s investment by recreating what they’ve spent two years cultivating, leveraging their growth momentum. As far as CCP is concerned, this is likely to happen now.
“Having contributed to every shooter project we’ve undertaken,” remarks Snorri Árnason, EVE Online’s recreation director, when questioned about the timing of this revelation.
That showcases Mud 514, along with two to three distinct prototypes previously confirmed at various EVE FanFests. We explored two title options, with one being a concise take and the other being more developed. We had a few experimental build iterations that didn’t ultimately pan out. I had the opportunity to visit Las Vegas and personally highlight its attractions, including Nova.
“We’ve never had such unbridled arrogance in any of those games; it’s a phenomenon unique to Vanguard.” The graphics in these video games had decreased infinitely, while our aspirations had remained high. We had a small team back then, but we’ve learned a lot from taking on this challenging project in one direction, rather than simply embracing the EVE-ness of everything.
That’s why CCP is keen to initiate the process now, aiming to raise concern in the neighborhood at an early stage, and begin addressing potential issues proactively. By four years’ time, gamers on whichever iteration of Xbox or PlayStation, or for that matter, any other console, will be able to seamlessly transition between platforms. Even with a Nintendo Switch, you can jump into EVE’s vibrant shared world shooter without needing a powerful PC.
Eager gamers seeking an early taste of Vanguard’s pad-based prowess can take heart in knowing that alpha testers within CCP’s community have successfully tested the game on the Steam Deck during the media day. As Vanguard’s First Strike testing progressed, the game effectively leveraged Valve’s handheld capabilities, a fact that its developers were acutely aware of.
Eve: Vanguard, the highly anticipated game, has officially entered the Founder’s marketplace, offering players an exclusive opportunity to be among the first to experience its innovative gameplay. Meanwhile, sports enthusiasts can look forward to Early Entry in 2025, with a global launch slated for 2027 on PC. A special event will take place from November 28 to December 9 at Vanguard, where attendees can obtain an entry code by joining the EVE Vanguard Discord server and participating.
