As Nintendo’s silence on its next-generation console endures, the frequency and accuracy of speculative leaks will only escalate, fueled by fans’ insatiable hunger for information about the as-yet-unnamed successor. Given the extraordinary length of time this entire ordeal has taken, there’s a certain irony in our current situation: we’re now dealing with hardware and design leaks, as well as actual game leaks.
While often misunderstood, this latest iteration of a typically reviled DC Comics reboot seems poised for a successful conclusion with Change 2.
The sports in question are none apart from Gotham Knights, the not-quite-Batman, not-quite-Arkhamverse motion role-playing game from 2022 that recently hit shelves. WB Games Montreal, the creative force behind Batman: Arkham Origins and various DLC packs for other Warner Bros. gaming endeavors, has unveiled its latest project.
Gotham Knights has left a lasting impression on many gamers, but unfortunately, its initial reception was met with widespread criticism from both critics and enthusiasts alike. While the game received some criticism for technical issues on PC and consoles, the majority of complaints centered on its monetization model, underwhelming loot and RPG elements, unengaging characters, and a narrative that failed to capitalize on the potential of Batman’s most formidable foes, The Court of Owls.
Noticing suspicious entries on a resume can be a red flag for any developer, particularly when it comes to porting games like Gotham Knights. According to the website, a senior programmer assisted in porting the game to two undisclosed platforms, which appear to be Xbox and Xbox 2.
The unannounced games may actually refer to the fact that the sports haven’t been introduced for these consoles, rather than implying that the platforms themselves will remain unannounced. The Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB) re-rated Gotham Knights for a Mature audience in September 2023, as reported by VGC. Considering its inevitable outcome, let us assume that the original plan was scrapped in favor of the significantly more successful Model Change 2.
If you’re not planning to purchase Gotham Knights upon its release on Switch 2, but still want to play something featuring Batman, the Batman: Arkham Trilogy is already available on Nintendo’s hybrid console and may also be compatible with the upcoming hardware, given that it supports the feature.
