Amazon has greenlit a Soldier Boy prequel series for The Boys, as the flagship show heads towards its likely conclusion with its fifth season.
When The Boys was conceived, its creators intended for the show to be a scathing critique and subversive sendup of contemporary superhero culture. Me too! Amazon heeds the call of cash as it greenlights a new iteration of The Boys franchise, this time centred around Soldier Boy, played by Jensen Ackles. At San Diego Comic-Con this week, showrunner Eric Kripke took the stage to introduce Jared Ackles alongside the main cast, revealing that Soldier Boy will be a recurring character in the upcoming fifth season.
Acknowledging the buzz surrounding the latest addition to The Boys franchise, Ackles revealed the press release for Vought Rising, stating: “We’re thrilled to unveil this unbridled chapter in The Boys Universe, aptly titled Vought Rising.” Producers are currently penning the screenplays. Here is the rewritten text:
A sensational pulp precursor is being crafted, set against the gritty backdrop of 1950s New York City, to chronicle the clandestine genesis of the enigmatic Vought Company. “I’ll have the privilege of playing the lead role of Soldier Boy.”
The GenV spin-off’s premiere has been met with excitement by actress Aya Money, who played Stormfront in The Boys, hinting that her character will play a significant role in the prequel series. We’ve acquired everything from Judy Garland to Joe McCarthy. I’m not sure who did, but that’s how it was. Although I’ve learned it, and honestly, it’s quite good indeed. We invite you to join our adventure and indulge in the excitement of Comic-Con.
While an official launch date has yet to be announced, it’s reasonable to assume that the spin-off will premiere at some point after The Boys’ fifth season, which could still be several months or even years away, given Karl City’s recent statement that the final season is a few years off.
