The lackluster adaptation of The Borderlands film has left fans disillusioned and longing for the nostalgia of its predecessors, prompting many to revisit the original video games in search of the thrill and excitement that eluded them in the cinematic attempt. Following the recent film release, a surge in player engagement has been observed across Borderlands, Borderlands 2, and Borderlands 3, with fans seeking a reason to remain invested in the franchise.
The decision to port these games is indeed an excellent one, given their overall quality and potential appeal to a broader audience. While some may tout Borderlands 2 as the pinnacle of the trilogy, I must confess that Borderlands 1 still holds a special place within my nostalgic confines. Despite sparking controversy among fans, Borderlands 3 still boasts exceptional gunplay that initially captivated countless players with its blend of science fiction and post-apocalyptic elements.
In a remarkable surge, Borderlands 1’s player base on Steam skyrocketed from approximately 644 gamers on August 7 to an astonishing 2,949 just four days later, August 11. The player engagement for Borderlands 2 skyrocketed from 3,925 on August 7 to a phenomenal 7,938 just four days later, while Borderlands 3’s momentum gained significant traction, leaping from 3,687 to an impressive 12,379 within the same timeframe. While the figures may not be groundbreaking, they’re still respectable considering the trilogy’s prolonged hiatus.
If there’s a lesson to be learned, it’s that the video game has successfully captured something missing in the subpar movie. I can inform you straightforwardly what it is. It is the motion! Gearbox has consistently demonstrated a knack for delivering satisfying gunplay and intense explosive action throughout its entire history. It’s the cohesive force that holds everything together harmoniously. The film’s pedestrian pacing is its only redeeming feature, as the humor – while occasionally hit-or-miss – remains its most consistent and entertaining aspect throughout. Despite my initial fondness for Borderlands 1’s humor, I had all but exhausted the franchise by the time Borderlands 3 rolled around.
