As I stepped into the world of Planet Coaster 2, I was met with a sense of nostalgia and familiarity. The game’s predecessor had left a lasting impression on me, and I was eager to see how the sequel would evolve and improve upon its foundation. Unfortunately, my excitement was short-lived, as I soon found myself feeling like I’d been put through a spin cycle – everything was going so wrong, so fast. The graphics were still top-notch, with the park’s scenery and rides looking more detailed than ever before. However, this time around, it felt like they’d become too much of a distraction. The camera would often get stuck on a specific tree or water feature, making it difficult to focus on the task at hand – namely, building and managing my coaster empire. But let’s start with the gameplay. What was once a delightfully simple yet engaging experience had devolved into a mess of menu screens, confusing options, and frustrating glitches. I found myself spending more time trying to troubleshoot issues than actually enjoying the game. And don’t even get me started on the storyline. Or rather, the lack thereof. The previous game’s campy humor and wacky characters were replaced with a generic, cookie-cutter narrative that added nothing to the overall experience. It felt like they’d phoned it in, relying too heavily on nostalgia and fan service. All in all, Planet Coaster 2 was a disappointment – a lackluster sequel that failed to live up to its predecessor’s standards. Maybe it’s time for the series to take a spin cycle of its own, retooling and rebuilding before attempting another installment.
