Blizzard recently provided extensive insight into Diablo 4’s inaugural new class, the Spiritborn, during a dedicated livestream as promised. Let’s take a closer look at the primary gameplay reveal for the new class, delving deeper into its backstory, how it fits within the larger narrative, and getting a sneak peek at some fresh gear arriving with its introduction.
The Spiritborn are warriors, as their name implies, deeply connected to animals from the enigmatic Spirit Realm. With the glaive at its disposal, this individual is also skilled in both ranged combat and close-quarters battles, thanks to proficiency in hand-to-hand fighting techniques. Additionally, they can summon their trusted Spirit Animals in the midst of a battle, granting them a unique edge in combat.
The Spiritborn showcase boasted an air of distinction, distinguished from standard developer streams by its grandeur and elevated production quality, typically reserved for major patch reveals. While the new class represents an evolution of lessons learned from Diablo’s history, it diverges significantly from any previous iterations.
Blizzard describes the Spiritborn as Diablo 4’s fastest and most ferocious class, with Spirit Animals tied to it introducing a plethora of distinct defensive styles, further enhancing the character’s versatility. As the gameplay reveal trailer unfolds, players will witness the intense battle unfold, as character attire adapts dynamically based on their chosen Spirit allegiance.
Unlike traditional fantasy games where players are bound to a specific class or role, in Spiritborn, you have the freedom to align yourself with a unique spirit, each offering distinct benefits and playstyles to suit your preferences. You will eventually be able to acquire two separate bonuses: one primary and the other secondary.
The four spirits are the jaguar, eagle, gorilla, and centipede – ancient symbols of power, strength, and resilience in indigenous cultures. As players engage with the unique abilities and impact on the category’s battle dynamics, they also unlock imaginative visual elements only accessible through playing as a Spiritborn.
What lies beyond: The Spiritborn awaits homeowners of the Vessel of Hatred’s dark expansion, set to arrive on October 8. This beginner-friendly option allows for seamless integration into the game’s existing structure, commencing with its unique storyline at Stage 15.
