Skydance Interactive’s behemoth-sized VR adventure will make its solo debut on the Meta Quest platform via a direct link on December 5.
While the forthcoming motion RPG’s release date currently targets simultaneous launches on Oculus Quest and PlayStation VR2, the potential for a PC VR version remains uncertain. A PC VR release date remained elusive in its “World and Story” trailer, with further details expected to be revealed “within the next few weeks.” Now, it appears that the upcoming game will debut on Meta’s store before making its way to Steam for PC VR users.
Skydance Games announced in two bulletins that its title may debut digitally on December 5, with PC VR capabilities available via Meta Quest Link Cable from launch day. Further PC VR platforms are set to follow at a later time.
While it’s unusual to see a new release transferred from one platform to another, as Meta’s PC VR store regularly receives titles like Metro Awakening, Steam remains the more typical storefront. The Steam Link app has been available on Quest since last year.
Following up with Skydance Games via email, UploadVR sought clarification on the PC VR launch plans, also inquiring whether a potential link to cross-buy support exists between Quest and Hyperlink.
“We’ve been dedicated to expanding our presence on PC VR and Steam from the outset, with a replacement likely arriving in the coming weeks,” stated Skydance representatives in their communication with us.
During a demo in New York on Wednesday evening, attendees also asked representatives present at the event whether they could confirm whether the game is still slated for a 2024 release on Steam. Skydance remained mum on the subject.
At Gamescom, Henry Stockdale’s identical demo was simultaneously released alongside a full build of the game on PlayStation VR2.
The PS VR2 construct intended by Skydance was supposed to showcase its capabilities, but unfortunately, it failed to take advantage of the PS5 features set up, prompting developers to revert back to a previous iteration featuring placeholder animations and incomplete partitions.
Skydance Interactive will release Behemoth on Meta Quest 2, joining the previously announced PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PlayStation VR2, as well as PC VR platforms. The task facing the studio’s developers is a daunting one – harmonizing the sport’s dynamic physics and massive, awe-inspiring monsters seamlessly across all major platforms, while capitalizing on the lucrative holiday season when many consumers budget for new games to gift their loved ones around Christmas?
Skydance has announced that a physical edition of Behemoth for PlayStation 5 will be released on February 6, 2025, following its digital debut by just two months.
