Skyblivion, a massive modding endeavor aiming to remake The Elder Scrolls IV within the engine of Bethesda’s iconic game, Skyrim, has reached its projected launch year: 2025.
Good one, proper? The modding team behind the project genuinely shared their vision, releasing a latest update and roadmap video to mark the start of a new year.
As of the current moment, the workforce has confirmed that the mods remain on track to meet their 2025 launch target, which they have been striving towards for some time now. Although there’s no specified month or precise date announced yet, it’s understandable given the significant success and recent release of Fallout: London, which faced some delays last year that weren’t entirely the game developers’ fault; you can appreciate why the Skyblivion team might not be ready to commit to a specific date at this stage.
There appear to be problems with the project. As the culmination of the mod’s most ambitious project, a single remaining component awaits its final touches. As the narrator notes, “The world map is nearing completion, with just the Nibenay region along Cyrodiil’s Jap border remaining to be finalized.” He emphasizes that despite Oblivion’s map being approximately one-third larger than Skyrim’s, “we’ve worked tirelessly to ensure every detail is bespoke and handmade throughout the entire map.”
While eight out of nine areas on the mod’s map have been thoroughly landscaped, the team continues to focus on tasks like navmeshing for these regions, as showcased in the video, which highlights progress made in each area and specific improvements, such as the expanded Cloud Ruler Temple.
Despite Skyblivion’s significant progress, its developers remain committed to completing numerous interior designs, currently prioritizing quest areas that demand additional conceptualization and time investments over standard interiors. Three realms of Oblivion have been successfully completed, allowing players to access new areas through the game’s gates. The developer notes that if time allows, they will further expand the list of randomly generated realms available for exploration.
While I don’t know much about you, something about this venture feels like a recipe for delightful escapades. The remaining workforce has merely half a dozen tasks left to tackle before everything falls into place seamlessly. The team also mentioned exploring the possibility of incorporating downloadable content (DLC) packs, like the Shivering Isles expansion, once the initial mod is released, and will investigate ways to make this happen.
As always, Skyblivion’s dedicated team of modders is actively seeking skilled volunteers willing to lend a hand in advancing this ambitious project. If you possess relevant expertise and are eager to contribute, simply visit our website at…
