Japanese telecom giant NTT Docomo has collaborated with Sharp to launch its latest augmented reality (AR) glasses, dubbed MiZRA, which will soon hit the Japanese market this fall.
What if you mistook Mizra for standard glasses, with its chunky struts and rims, 6DOF sensors monitoring every move, and a central camera capturing the scene? The real clincher is the AR optics from LetinAR, South Korea’s innovative lens creator, which grants a whopping 45-degree diagonal field of view through “mirror bars”.
Developed by NTT QONOQ Units, a collaborative effort between Sharp and NTT’s XR growth department, Mizra is designed to offer premium features without compromising on quality, defying conventional notions of a budget-friendly device. Priced at ¥248,000 (approximately $1,730 USD), this versatile machine appears to be squarely aimed at enterprises, despite its playful features and practical applications.
The company showcases its innovative features during the press launch in Japanese, emphasizing the device’s capabilities to capture high-quality images, initiate voice calls, and display multiple screens seamlessly on any surface across the user interface. Mizra boasts a claimed peak brightness of 1,000 nits, leaving ambiguity around whether this represents the perceived luminance for the end-user or merely the raw capacity of its 1,920 × 1,080 micro-OLED display.
With its innovative design, Mizra ensures optimal weight distribution by strategically placing components closer to the rear of the glasses’ struts, thereby achieving a more balanced feel.
The device features an onboard Qualcomm Snapdragon AR2 Gen1 processor, with each component situated internally, while also providing Wi-Fi connectivity to compatible Snapdragon Spaces-enabled smartphones.
The corporation has exclusively licensed the AQUOS R9 SH-51E, a Japanese-market flagship smartphone by Sharp, although it notes that additional suitable devices may be announced at a later date.
While we’re eager for more clarity on launch details, it appears Mizra may be a Japan-exclusive device. During this interim period, please review the specifications found at:
