Marvel has finally found a director for the forthcoming Spider-Man 4 film, entrusting renowned helmer Destin Daniel Cretton, best known for his work on Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings.
While rumors of a potential Spider-Man 4 have persisted, with even Tom Holland himself hinting at its possibility, few concrete details have emerged thus far. According to a recent report from The Hollywood Reporter, Shang-Chi helmer Destin Daniel Crettton is currently in negotiations to take the reins on Spider-Man 4. It would not sound like issues are 100% locked in fairly but, although that is the closest Marvel seems to have gotten with signing on a director – it was reported earlier this 12 months that Quick & Livid director Justin Lin was being eyed-up for it, however that seems to haven’t labored out.
Despite his success with “Just Mercy”, Cretton’s involvement remains a significant concern: can he realistically fit this project into his already packed schedule? The director is reportedly committed to working on Shang-Chi 2, alongside a live-action adaptation of Naruto, originally scheduled for release before the Marvel sequel – he was also set to helm The Kang Dynasty prior to Marvel’s shift towards Doctor Doom.
While Marvel Studios’ priorities are currently focused on Spider-Man 4, fans may need to wait even longer for updates on Shang-Chi 2 and the live-action Naruto film, as long as Kevin Feige remains at the helm.
As speculation swirls around Holland’s involvement in Spider-Man 4, it was only logical that he would have a significant role given his iconic character status as Spider-Man. Yet, according to Deadline, both he and Zendaya are now engaging with executives and producers, paving the way for new offers to be forthcoming shortly.
With Spider-Man: No Way Home’s unprecedented box office success, a fourth installment would undoubtedly be a major coup for both Marvel Studios and Sony, as the third film grossed nearly $2 billion worldwide. With four movies in the works, it’s crucial that the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) hits a home run, given the tough stretch the franchise has experienced recently.
