As you’re wondering who’s behind the commotion this morning, rest assured that it’s Ruckus Games: a newly formed studio comprised of talented developers from renowned studios such as Bethesda, Gearbox, Riot, Blizzard, Epic, and more, helmed by CEO and game director Paul Sage. That’s a reputation MMORPG enthusiasts will readily recognize, given Sage’s prior role as an inventive director at both studios.
Ruckus, based in Frisco, Texas, has secured $19 million in funding to develop its “secret multiplayer title,” the demo of which was built by the 14-member studio just over a year ago. In this forthcoming cooperative survival adventure, players join forces to “smash, seize, and thrive” in an immersive, session-based experience set in a suburban invasion.
The upcoming title will offer cooperative play for up to four players, set in a dynamic and evolving world that will receive regular updates featuring fresh, emergent content. Amidst the nostalgia-tinged landscape of America’s heartland, ordinary citizens are unexpectedly transformed into heroes as their city falls under siege, prompting them to rise up and take action. The underlying factors behind these anomalies remain unclear, and problems do not seem to be coherently connected.
Players can choose from an extensive cast of playable characters and concoct countless unique weapon combinations, such as a toaster transformed into a blade-throwing behemoth or an energy washer repurposed as a flamethrower. As gamers “Smash, Seize, and Develop” through electrifying suburban invasion scenarios, they’ll experience the thrill of battle. Embrace chaos, raze everything in sight, uncover innovative armaments and resources, and liberate non-playable characters to transport back to the safety of your Hometown, a central hub of refuge. As the game unfolds, players have the opportunity to refine their arsenal and skills, empowering themselves to excel in subsequent rounds of intense excitement.
The graphics are sure to capture your attention immediately; this is largely due to Ruckus’s strategic decision to hire renowned artist Scott Kester as its art director.
Sign-ups for the unbranded sport’s playtesting phase remain available on Ruckus’ official website, with initial playtests not slated to commence until early 2025. Let’s add it to the watch list for future review and potential action.
