According to Amazon US data in 2023, approximately 170,000 Quest headsets were sold during a 30-day period encompassing Black Friday and Cyber Monday. By 2024, the company had sold roughly 146,000 Quest headsets, marking a 14% decline in overall revenue. This will serve as a consultant to various retailers.
The launch of Meta’s Quest 3S has yielded a remarkable outcome, particularly given the simultaneous debut of the Quest 3 at a significantly reduced price point and the availability of a flagship game featuring an iconic intellectual property in time for Black Friday.
During the 2023 holiday shopping season, Meta continued to market its aging Quest 2 virtual reality (VR) headset. Last year’s Black Friday deal on the top-rated 128GB headset saw an unbeatable price drop to just $250, complete with a $50 gift card, effectively bringing the cost down to $200.
During that period, the Quest 3S (128GB) model became significantly more popular compared to last year’s deals, when Meta offered it for $300 with a $75 gift card, effectively reducing the price to $225.
That’s not a massive difference in value, and from a value standpoint, the Quest 3S is clearly worth the $25 premium. Despite this, other crucial factors include broader financial components, competitive product offerings, and shifts in interest towards the virtual reality market as a whole, all of which can have a significant impact.
During Black Friday and Cyber Monday, the gross sales ratio between Oculus Quest 3S and Oculus Quest 3 demonstrated a striking similarity to last year’s ratio between Quest 2 and Quest 3, with both headsets displaying a 3:1 sales disparity.
