The renowned Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio remains extremely prolific, consistently churning out a wide range of innovative projects. Less than six months away, the Japanese developer is poised to debut its latest offering, while at The Sport Awards in December, it also unveiled not one, but two new titles: a brand-new game and another in an unannounced genre known only by its codename.
Loads of fan theories and hypotheses have been spawned by the latter’s enigmatic nature, with Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and Sega remaining tight-lipped about its true significance. The recent It Takes Two trailer has confirmed that the game may be set in 1915 Japan, leading many to speculate whether it could potentially serve as a prequel to the series. Primarily based on recent statements from RGG Studio’s boss, Masayoshi Yokoyama, it’s unclear whether this is actually the situation.
Noted by Automaton Media, during the course of a recent live broadcast, Yokoyama clarified that all previous hypotheses and theories proposed by followers had been proven inaccurate to date. RGG Studio took care to avoid revealing any specifics or clues in the trailer, ensuring that it remained cryptic and didn’t inadvertently spill the beans on upcoming details.
“We deliberately avoided sharing any information that could have led to speculation,” Yokoyama explained.
The extent of time before the developer decides to fully unveil the project remains unclear; yet, judging by its progress so far, it has undoubtedly garnered a significant amount of good will.
While awaiting its successor, RGG Studio’s upcoming game will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC starting February 21.
