The critically-acclaimed survival horror game Phasmophobia is set to debut on PlayStation VR2 within a fortnight of its early console launch, perfectly timed to coincide with the spooky atmosphere of Halloween.
Originally released on Steam Early Access more than four years ago with optional PC-based virtual reality support, Phasmophobia is a chilling psychological horror game designed for cooperative play among up to four players online. As part of an elite team of paranormal investigators, it falls upon me and my colleagues to delve into the unknown, uncovering evidence of the most inexplicable and chilling hauntings. After a lengthy wait, Kinetic Video games has officially announced that the game will debut in an early access format for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation VR2 on October 29.
The console version kicks off its upcoming Halloween event, Crimson Eye. As a rare celestial phenomenon unfolds, a Blood Moon casts its eerie glow over diverse landscapes, with pink rainfall blanketing the surroundings; however, the ghostly presence proves an unwavering force, rendering futile any attempts to confront it. As you struggle to maintain a grip on reality, all you can do is endeavour to safeguard your mental well-being amidst the chaos. Upon completing the event’s objectives, the Blood Moon climate becomes available as a permanent reward for all players.
In a gaggle Q&A session after a latest digital presentation, Kinetic Video games knowledgeable UploadVR that the PS VR2 model runs at 60fps efficiency with 120Hz reprojection. I’m told that no deliberate effort exists to expedite PS5 professional support for the initial early access launch, but this possibility may arise at some point. Foveated rendering, a technology that leverages eye-tracking capabilities, is now supported, as well as haptic suggestions for an immersive experience.
Phasmophobia drops into Early Access on October 29, priced at $20, exclusively for the PS5, with optional support for PlayStation VR2 compatibility available. The game is currently available on Steam, while the Halloween event kicks off on October 28 exclusively for PC players.
