The long-awaited Orion Drift, an immersive social VR sports experience developed by Gorilla Tag, has released a thrilling new trailer, offering a glimpse into the captivating gameplay and world of the Driftball District.
Recently unveiled by One Other Axiom, Orion Drift is a futuristic virtual reality sports game that innovatively reimagines traditional sports such as soccer and volleyball through the use of hand-based movement controls. The platform seamlessly divides each sport into distinct zones, featuring meticulously crafted events that foster a sense of community, allowing up to 200 players to converge simultaneously and interact through their own customizable robotic avatars.
A newly released gameplay trailer zeroes in on the vibrant Driftball District, touted as the epicenter of robotic athletics on this planet. Options offering action-packed experiences like urban golf, basketball, and parkour, as showcased above.
At Meta’s Join 2024 event, Axiom co-founder Kerestell Smith explained that their concept seeks to erase boundaries between spectators and athletes in large-scale settings. Orion Drift aims to craft a unique community hub where people can gather and freely explore with like-minded individuals.
“‘The DNA from Gorilla Tag, which is being infused into our future games, isn’t a specific set of interactions or a particular game mode we’re trying to replicate,’ Smith explained at the time.” Being part of a diverse group requires exceptional skills. “The connections you’ll form and the communities you might join.”
