Slitherine, a prominent developer of strategic games like Panzer Corps and Wasteland Express Delivery Service, has acquired Battlefront, a veteran creator of the iconic Turn-Based Wargame series, Fight Mission. Announcing its plans on Tuesday during an information launch, the company takes a significant step towards securing a more stable future for its beloved franchise, which has deep roots in tabletop gaming.
Formally launched in 2000, the distinctive creation of Stephen Grammont and Charles Moylan was directly inspired by Avalon Hill’s iconic 1977 tabletop game. The game allows players to command company- and battalion-sized units, comprising approximately 100 to 1,000 troops, through an innovative “WEGO” turn-based system, where gamers orchestrate large-scale movements and decisions over the course of multiple turns. As the battle’s opposing forces face off, their carefully crafted plans unfold in real-time, unfolding like a gripping action movie.
Over the past decade, the Fight Mission sequence has expanded beyond its historical roots in World War II, evolving into a dynamic and modern phenomenon. Two new titles available on Steam are, a game that simulates hypothetical conflicts between Syrian and NATO forces, and , a “what if” strategy game where players can experiment with different scenarios involving NATO and Warsaw Pact forces.
Grammont, co-creator of the series and founder of Battlefront, expressed enthusiasm about partnering with Slitherine. “Our shared vision for the future of wargaming is perfectly in sync with theirs, giving us confidence that our collaborative efforts will yield outstanding results.” We’re eager to deliver fresh and captivating content to our loyal followers.
The announcement also noted that fresh options are currently in development.
This strategic alliance is primed to deliver innovative and captivating experiences for enthusiasts of the genre, thereby amplifying the reach and impact of Fight Mission, according to Slitherine. “By collaborating, Slitherine and Battlefront aim to drive growth in the wargaming industry in a meaningful and lasting way, ensuring the genre’s enduring popularity.”
