Not long after Larian launched its official modding toolkit for Baldur’s Gate 3, it was only a matter of time before modders figured out how to unlock new capabilities, sparking creativity that will likely lead to custom maps and even full custom campaigns in the near future. With a revised approach utilizing officially sanctioned tools, a creative modder has successfully integrated a self-contained, fully customizable quest into the game’s framework, marking a significant milestone in the community-driven development process.
Here is the rewritten text:
Notwithstanding being a secondary attempt at incorporating a quest into Baldur’s Gate 3, Household Legacy presents itself as a pre-modding instance that effectively realizes its goal using notes and select distinct objects; however, it appears to be one of the first, if not the primary, instances to leverage the custom location creation and in-depth tweaking of NPCs/quest mechanics made possible by these new tools.
The primary objective of the Soul of Kiran’s ‘Clown Tent MoonGlasses Showcase’ module is to showcase the untapped potential offered by ‘Moonglasses – BG3 Extended Toolkit’. Modders on Discord have issued a challenge aimed at building upon the creative possibilities unlocked by Siegfre’s BG3 Toolkit, focusing on enhancing features such as advanced dialogue options and cinematic tweaks.
In the video below, the clown tent showcase is a brief custom quest integrated at the beginning of Act 1, where you’re transported into a bizarre tent dimension, encountering Agnesius, a clown voiced by the modder themselves, sporting her signature pink hair and all.
As your conversation unfolds, you’ll find yourself in sync with the other person to recover the misplaced nostril from “the good clown battle” – an image that conjures up visions of Willem Dafoe’s iconic scene from Platoon, but this time featuring Juggles instead; or alternatively, you might candidly express your dislike for clowns.
When you retrieve the nostril, which emits a faint squeaking sound when manipulated in its housing, you can achieve this by completing a custom quest that will guide you towards finding it near the Nautiloid crash site, and then returning it to complete your mission.
When provoking the clown during the initial combo, you may spark a fierce battle, ultimately leading to his demise, with the consequences of his decapitation becoming a gruesome testament to your triumph. As you prepare to encounter someone for the first time, you’re advised to make a conscious decision about which nostril to use earlier on, essentially serving as a pre-emptive strategy guiding you towards the tent with greater ease.
All in all, this little mission reveals off “{custom} map ranges, dialogues [made] from scratch, dynamic timelines & cinematic cameras, {custom} voice-over, {custom} journal quests, [and] superior dialog logic & triggers”.
While it’s hoped that modders might have the capability to add custom campaigns in the future.
Newly developed mods for Baldur’s Gate 3 have gained traction among fans, introducing real-time combat and custom romance cutscenes that offer engaging gameplay experiences, despite the current state of the game still being somewhat experimental.
