After a prolonged period of nearly two decades, fervent calls have persistently echoed for the creation of a sequel. As time passed, the possibility of a sequel seemed increasingly distant, yet just last week at The Sport Awards, Capcom made headlines by announcing the development of a new installment, with its original director, Hideki Kamiya, poised to helm the project once more.
Capcom has accompanied its announcement with a tweet featuring a personal message from Kamiya. The creator and driving force behind numerous iconic games, who departed PlatinumGames in 2023, has voiced his enthusiasm about rejoining forces with Capcom, where he will spearhead the development of a new studio, Clovers, tasked with overseeing the growth of the highly anticipated sequel.
Without hesitation, Kamiya’s words convey a sense of trepidation: “I never thought the moment would arrive when I’d revisit Okami, taking creative control as I continued the narrative with my own hands.” As I stand here, an overwhelming sense of trepidation courses through me, coupled with a joy that transcends the boundaries of language to convey its essence.
“Special thanks to those tireless individuals who worked tirelessly to bring this challenge to life, my loyal friends who rallied behind me at Clovers, and most profoundly, the countless voices that have continued to support me over an extended period of time – all these elements have converged to create a true miracle for which I am deeply grateful.”
As a surge of energy unfolds, this formidable test finally begins to stir. Although it’s still a tiny bud, it’s undeniably beginning to bloom. “We successfully filled this space with a profusion of colorful blooms, striving to deliver on the pledge of ‘better times’ in a most exemplary manner.”
Capcom has unveiled further details on its website, stating that the sequel will receive external development support from both M-Two, the studio behind the 2020 remake, and Machine Head Works.
On its website, the corporation notes that it will be some time before providing updates on the sequel. The Sports Awards revealed that the sport is currently in the development phase, with production expected to begin soon, thus putting its actual launch into the distant future.
Capcom has officially announced that, in addition to the previously revealed revival of, they are also committed to reviving other dormant franchises. Discover more about this topic by visiting this page.
