It has been officially announced that Nintendo’s next-generation console will be backwards compatible with the Nintendo Switch, a claim previously made by leaks.
Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa announced in a tweet that, according to the company’s latest financial report, the upcoming Switch successor will be compatible with existing Switch games, as shared during its corporate administration briefing.
Furukawa further solidified that Nintendo Switch Online will also be accessible on the company’s forthcoming console. It’s unlikely to be a surprise, given both the widespread popularity of the service and Nintendo’s repeated statements indicating an intent to facilitate a seamless generational transition to their next console through this kind of continuity.
Furukawa notes that further details regarding the successor to the Switch and how it will handle backward compatibility will be disclosed “at a later date”. Recently, he has officially revealed that the console will be launched before April 2025, a confirmation made earlier this year.
As of September 30, the Nintendo Switch has sold a staggering 146.04 million units globally.
That is Furukawa. As part of our recent Company Administration Coverage Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be compatible with the next-generation Nintendo Switch console. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well? Additional details about…
