There is no shortage of hypotheses surrounding all things Valve. Tyler McVicker, a prominent YouTuber and leading voice on decoding Valve’s diverse projects, has revealed that the company’s highly anticipated standalone VR headset is not only still in development but also poised to launch alongside its own dedicated game.
According to McVicker’s sources, Valve still plans to release “Deckard”, their highly anticipated standalone hardware, despite the initial hype.

Rumors are circulating about the upcoming Half-Life game, which will not be a VR-supported title (aka “HLX”), suggesting that McVicker speculates it may be a recreation built specifically to showcase Deckard’s abilities, much like how Valve showcased the capabilities of its Valve Index.
Rumors resurface of potentially two new video games in development, with speculation swirling around a potential cooperative experience on both PC and Deckard platforms, echoing whispers from 2020.
According to McVicker, the potential outcome of this experiment could result in an “uneven” multiplayer experience within the universe, where one player utilises virtual reality (VR) while the other engages with the game on a computer. The PC participant will always be Gordon Freeman, while the VR participant is free to embody Alyx Vance.
“The plan entailed a collaborative narrative approach, where participants in both virtual reality (VR) and personal computer (PC) environments would engage with distinct storylines: Alyx’s journey would unfold for VR users, while Gordon’s tale would be experienced by PC gamers. The twist lay in cooperative elements that would bring the two narratives together.”
While rumors persist about this declaration, investigative journalist McVicker digs deeper into code released by Valve across its various first-party games and services, potentially uncovering hints at what’s in store. Despite admitting he’s “nowhere near complete,” the developer still hopes to learn more from Valve’s 2024 code release, with potential for further progress later this year.
