A patch eliminating the mod’s potential impact on God of Battle Ragnarok’s PSN requirements on PC ensures a seamless experience, rendering any initial concerns obsolete.
At the launch of God of War Ragnarök on PC this month, a minor issue arose: players were required to link their PSN account to access the game. Despite this, the sport’s evaluation has been largely bombed, with no indication that PlayStation is reconsidering its stance on the issue. A modder created a patch that bypassed the PlayStation Network’s login requirement, albeit with some inconsistent results. The mod, which had always carried an element of risk, will now be completely deleted by its creator due to concerns over potential legal action from Sony.
The modder explained their decision-making process in a press statement, stating: “That was my personal preference, following the mod’s overwhelming attention.” “I decided to remove it from public access to preempt potential risks from the Sony side, even though the project never affected anything related to Sony products, but it’s always better to err on the side of caution.”
The PlayStation Network (PSN) requirement from Sony has sparked controversy surrounding its PC releases in recent years, with the most notable example being Helldivers 2’s backlash upon its release; the game suffered from critical evaluation bombing when it was announced that players would be required to sign into a PSN account months after launch. Sony’s poor performance on this title notwithstanding, they are unlikely to reevaluate their approach across their entire catalog moving forward.
