With successes like Spider-Man and Uncharted under its belt, Sony has enjoyed considerable acclaim for its TV and movie adaptations of PlayStation franchises, with even more projects in development. Not all of them will, however, have the capacity to bask in the sunlight.
It appears that Netflix’s adaptation of Guerrilla and Sony’s collection have been put on hold. According to a report by Rolling Stone, the show’s purported cancellation has coincided with claims of a prolonged history of toxic behavior, including bullying, manipulation, and retaliation, directed towards Steven Blackman within the workplace. Blackman, renowned for his work as a showrunner on various Netflix series, was initially set to hold the same position on another project.
The fate of Netflix’s show hangs in balance, leaving everyone wondering if a new showrunner will be appointed to drive the series forward. But for now, it seems unlikely that production will resume anytime soon – certainly not as optimistically as originally hoped.
Outside of this, Sony is currently collaborating with diverse external partners on fresh or ongoing expansions of its PlayStation properties, including a second season of that series, another feature film, a movie inspired by that franchise, an Amazon Prime series based on that property, and more.
Later this year, Sony is set to release a brand-new spin-off game, co-developed by Studio Ioi and Guerrilla Games. The highly anticipated title will make its debut on PlayStation 5, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
