Following reports of NetherRealm Studios’ decision to lay off more than 50 employees from its mobile development team, uncertainty surrounds the future of the studio’s ongoing live-service mobile titles. The highly anticipated reports have finally been substantiated: a prominent will indeed cease operations, leaving its devoted fan base reeling in shock and uncertainty.
Particularly, it’s that’s shutting down. The team-based motion RPG spin-off, which debuted on iOS and Android last October, is set to be removed from sale on both platforms as of today (July 22), with in-game microtransactions available until August 23. On October 21, roughly 12 months after its inception, the game’s servers are scheduled to shut down permanently, rendering the title unplayable.
The fate of NetherRealm Studios’ mobile games remains uncertain, with their future hanging in the balance following recent events; however, despite the dire circumstances, one can’t help but feel a glimmer of hope for their continued success. Keep tuned for extra updates.
