The event initially seemed endearing, but ultimately drew widespread scorn from fans who complained it discarded great ideas; by 2023, players orchestrated an online petition on Change.org to abolish the mob vote, which garnered over 530,000 signatures.

The Minecraft Live event, once held annually, is evolving to accommodate a more dynamic pace. From now on, the team will host two events per year, each boasting an enhanced focus on behind-the-scenes insights into their current projects as well as essential Minecraft updates. The team may also adjust their pace for publishing fresh content alongside modifications to group events. The crew won’t merely offer a single free replacement in the summer; instead, it will roll out a “series of free game drops throughout the year.”
