META lowers the upgrade price for Contact Professional controllers to $250.
While Meta Quest Professional comes bundled with professional controllers, these controllers also seamlessly integrate with Quest 2, Quest 3, and potentially even the upcoming Quest 3S.
Meta has been touting an upgraded Contact Professional controller package that bundles the controllers with a convenient compact charging dock, available at a competitive price point of $300, since shortly after the Quest Professional headset’s launch. The cost of the equipment has decreased significantly over time, now standing at a reasonable $250?
Professional controllers utilise integrated cameras and an advanced onboard chipset, allowing them to monitor their surroundings from any angle, unlike Quest 2 and Quest 3 controllers which have limited monitoring capabilities.
The Contact professional features three haptic motors: a voice-coil modulator situated within the handle, linear resonant actuators positioned beneath the index finger trigger and thumb rest, as well as finger curl and slide sensors integrated into the index finger trigger.
Unlike other Meta controllers that utilize AA batteries, the Contact Professional features a non-replaceable built-in battery, which is charged via pogo-pins connected to the Quest Professional’s docking station or the compact charging dock provided with the improved equipment.
While there are some drawbacks to consider with Contact Professional. While they exhibit slightly longer initialization times for monitoring, their performance is compromised in low-light conditions and prone to occasional overheating when operating in hot temperatures.
The price of a Quest 3 with full-featured motion controllers is now $750, while the Quest 3S is likely to come in at $550.
