The most highly anticipated titles for Meta’s VR platform will remain on indefinite maintenance.
At the 2021 Meta Connect event, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced that Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas would be coming to Meta Quest headsets. Meta has consistently refused to comment on the matter over the years, instead pointing media outlets to its partner organizations for any updates.
By late September 2024, Meta will officially address the status of Half-Life: Alyx’s modding community through a YouTube video, as revealed in a joint statement with IGN and independently corroborated by UploadVR.
Meta clarified that GTA: San Andreas will remain available indefinitely, while individual teams tackle distinct projects. “We’re looking forward to collaborating with our partners at Rockstar in the future.”
Since its launch, Meta’s virtual reality platform has undergone several iterations of its primary title, with recent notable releases including Asgard’s Wrath 2 from one of its acquired studios and Assassin’s Creed Nexus from Ubisoft. The company also intends to release Batman: Arkham Shadow, a product of one of its recently acquired studios, by the end of this year, simultaneously with major third-party titles such as Alien: Isolation and Metro Exodus.
