James Cameron has partnered with Meta on a landmark multi-year agreement to significantly expand the availability of high-quality 3D video content for Quest headsets.
Cameron’s new firm, Lightstorm Imaginative and prescient, has formed a partnership aimed at making stereoscopic technology pervasive across all visual media. The goal is to simplify the process of creating stereoscopic 3D content, making it as effortless as producing conventional 2D content. Especially, Lightstorm’s innovative team is developing tools aimed at enabling traditional entertainment productions to capture and disseminate content in 3D with ease and affordability.
The strategic alliance aims to bring cutting-edge 3D entertainment experiences to Horizon OS, encompassing live sports and concerts, movie premieres, and popular television series featuring iconic intellectual property.
Meta’s struggling VR ecosystem is yet to rival the immersive experience offered by competitors like Apple TV and Disney+, where users can enjoy a plethora of high-quality 3D content, leaving a notable gap in their own visionOS.
“I am convinced that we have reached a pivotal moment of great significance, marking a turning point in history.” “We’re poised to shape a future where, through our collaboration with Meta, we’ll have the tools, expertise, and opportunities to bring forth innovative and awe-inspiring forms of media,” Cameron stated.
“It’s truly an inspiration to collaborate with a true innovator within our community, studying from their experiences and learning from their success. The opportunity to work alongside them and their team is a tremendous honor, as we strive to share the latest technological advancements with others.” Meta’s Chief Technology Officer Andrew Bosworth expressed enthusiasm for the forthcoming revelations, stating that his company is eager to share further updates in the coming months.
