Although you may still be grieving over the conclusion of Star Wars – Episode IX: The Rise of Skywalker, it’s time to move forward and prepare for another chapter in the saga. Marvel Comics has unveiled a comic book adaptation of the concluding installment of the iconic Star Wars saga, more than five years after its cinematic debut.
A new limited series from Jody Houser (The Physician Who, Star Wars: Thrawn) and artist Will Sliney (Star Wars: The Rise of Kylo Ren, Ben Reilly: Scarlet Spider), which premiered in 2020, brings the 2019 film to life in a five-issue adaptation. To rectify the unforeseen hiatus, Lucasfilm and Marvel have seamlessly woven in previously unseen moments, infusing the narrative with fresh, unexplored plot twists.
According to Marvel’s official publication, the five-issue limited series will finally arrive soon, following the release of the ongoing series Star Wars: Legacy of Vader on February 5. As fervent fans of Kylo Ren eagerly devour new content, it’s unclear whether this resurgence signals a full-scale revival of the enigmatic character, distinct from Adam Driver’s other endeavors.
The most buzzworthy aspect of the official press release is editor Mark Paniccia’s comment about fans’ fervent desire for more appearances from characters introduced in 2015’s The Force Awakens: “There’s a resurgence of interest in these characters, particularly Kylo Ren, Darth Vader’s bloodline heir.” While bringing back Ben Solo (at least in the post-TROS era) would be challenging, Disney and Lucasfilm are certainly taking notes – which is why Daisy Ridley’s Rey may prove the key to Star Wars’ on-screen future, according to insiders. At least one film focused on a specific character is currently undergoing formal development.

Although we are familiar with the narrative, Marvel’s latest announcement sets the stage for a thrilling new chapter, to be unveiled by February.
As the Resistance fights to resist the First Order’s tyranny, Poe Dameron uncovers a formidable threat looming on the horizon. As the fate of the galaxy teeters on the brink, Rey must uncover the cryptic path leading to the secretive Sith stronghold, unwittingly drawing herself into a confrontation with the formidable Kylo Ren. As the clock ticks down, can our protagonists successfully prevent the impending catastrophe of the FINAL ORDER?
After years of intense debate over the Star Wars sequels, it’s unlikely this belated adaptation would sway anyone’s opinion. Still, the trilogy’s incomplete comic book form always felt jarring, and an official examination of cut scenes is a welcome treat for fans like myself. May the giant kid sporting a rather peculiar extraterrestrial-like hairdo have indeed achieved a reduction in size?
