As the PS5’s versatile title lineup expands, it’s only logical that Insomniac Games contributes to the excitement. Prior to the release, the studio had already confirmed that they would capitalise on the console’s enhanced performance capabilities; meanwhile, a recent PlayStation Blog post has shed light on exactly how: Performance Mode.
According to Insomniac’s core know-how director Mike Fitzgerald, the new mode effectively combines the “crisp” 4K resolution of Constancy mode with the ray tracing capabilities, while simultaneously delivering a smooth 60 frames per second performance akin to Efficiency mode. While this combination represents the best of both worlds, there’s more to consider.
The efficiency of Ray Tracing is expected to be a prominent feature across all PS5 titles developed by Insomniac Games, including Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Spider-Man: Miles Morales. Fitzgerald verified that the studio is willing to “invest additional resources in exploring innovative ways to utilize PS5 Pro’s capabilities for both existing and upcoming game titles.”
Despite rumors suggesting a 2026 release window, the game currently lacks a confirmed launch date. While the PS5 Pro’s capabilities may hold exciting possibilities for innovative applications, its full potential will remain shrouded in mystery until its unveiling.
