A brand-new Like A Dragon spin-off game, set to debut early next year, was unveiled at today’s RGG Summit 2024.
The game’s narrative could revolve around Goro Majima as its sole protagonist, marking a first in series history, akin to last year’s Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
The spin-off game incorporates various elements from Like A Dragon: Infinite Torment, set in Hawaii where Majima washes up, forgotten about his identity, and encounters Noah Wealthy – with new additions including the pirate-themed hub, Madlantis, a name that defies comprehension.
After the conclusion of Infinite Wealth, the game’s narrative delves into the aftermath of Ichiban Kasuga halting the Palekana cult’s sinister plans. The revamped Hawaii map, Madlantis, and Wealthy Island become accessible, with Wealthy Island serving as the starting point where Majima encounters a young boy.
Evidence suggests that hand-to-hand combat did occur between crews on pirate ships’ decks, raising the possibility of Majima becoming a pirate captain; only time will tell if we’ll see Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag-style naval battles unfold. Despite initial reservations, I’d propose that the likelihood of Majima pirate elements in RGG’s next game warrants further consideration; only time will tell. While loads of fascinating activities will undoubtedly be on tap, as planned.
The highly anticipated Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza In Hawaii will set sail for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC on February 28, 2025.
Last September’s RGG Summit was noteworthy, with revelations on the release date for Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, as well as showcasing two trailers for the game and unveiling the start of Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name.
Sega has announced that RGG (Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio) will release a Nintendo Switch port of Yakuza Kiwami in October, alongside the Prime Video adaptation “Like a Dragon: Yakuza” TV series, also set to premiere that month.
