Arrowhead Games has released the initial elements of its inaugural crossover for Helldivers 2, marking a significant milestone in the game’s development. A new line of gaming accessories inspired by the popular PlayStation franchise Killzone has sparked controversy among gamers due to the high prices demanded for these items.
The introduction of the Helldivers X Killzone collaboration has sparked controversy, as players are outraged by the steep price tag of the new assault rifle and armor set added to the game’s superstore, requiring a significant 990 HD2 credits, comparable to what one would typically spend on a full Warbond bundle.
Arrowhead’s CEO, Shams Jorjani, has engaged with critics on the sport’s official Discord server, responding directly to concerns over pricing from fans, known as “Tremendous Earthers”.
Here: We’re excited to start a new collaboration with Helghast – our inaugural project together, and we’re figuring things out as we go! I’d rather have it sooner? Secondly, this offering is entirely elective – and we’re excited to share that with you. We’ll be hosting a selection of illuminating events at no additional cost to you, so be sure to stay tuned for those announcements.
Following Jorjani’s typical post-launch protocol, he promptly engaged with gamers who replied to his message, mirroring the behavior often observed from Helldivers 2’s profile developers when they reappear online after a server update. “To avoid confusion, we’re not suggesting that,” he clarified, addressing Arrowhead’s alleged attempt to “plant a seed” in users’ minds about potentially having to pay for non-collaborative content material updates. Specifically, he warned: “As our overall business grows, so too do the potential free updates.”
While acknowledging criticism that the monetization of elective content could lead to a surplus of enjoyable core features, the CEO conceded that the studio may be open to legitimate criticisms regarding these costs. “Our objective was to experiment with different ideas and observe how players respond, how well the content sells and evolves over time,” he stated in one of his final posts during this brief server conversation.
