Among Mass Effect’s most iconic features, one notable option remains glaringly absent from Andromeda. As the sequel’s fate hangs in the balance, fans anxiously wonder if this much-missed feature will finally return.
As gamers focus on the Mass Effect trilogy, they likely ponder the various choices made throughout the series, recognizing how significant and trivial decisions alike impact the outcome of pivotal events. In BioWare’s hallmark tradition, player choice and resolution making were conspicuous by their absence in Mass Effect: Andromeda. Despite uncertainty surrounding the title of the next installment, one thing that remains unclear is whether the Renegade and Paragon systems will make a comeback in Mass Effect 5, with some fans speculating that they might return regardless of the game’s eventual name.
Michael Gamble, Challenge Director and Government Producer at BioWare, and Mass Impact series veteran, has recently addressed concerns from fans regarding the next installment, endeavoring to alleviate fears by assuring that numerous leaders from the original trilogy will return in the forthcoming game. As the conversation progressed, the topic shifted to the Renegade and Paragon systems, with Gamble highlighting the importance of choosing the former, despite many players opting for the latter. This observation sparked a comment from one fan, who speculated that it would be “completely coming back” in Mass Effect 5.
Despite Gamble’s ambiguity, he seemingly hinted at discussing the trilogy, but when asked about the sequel, he offered only a cryptic “you may simply have to attend and see…,” leaving fans to interpret his words as neither confirmation nor denial, but rather a tantalizing teaser. It’s possible that BioWare is considering a reboot or reinvigoration of their franchise. Only time will tell what they have in store.
Now that Dragon Age: The Veilguard has been concluded, BioWare’s attention can finally shift to Mass Effect once again, with last year’s N7 Day surprisingly subdued in terms of fanfare. While uncertainty prevails, I’ll keep my guard up against either malevolent or benevolent forces.
