Despite Tango Gameworks’ significant critical and commercial success with its beloved game, Microsoft’s sudden decision to shut down the studio in the same year effectively extinguished any potential for a sequel. Notwithstanding Krafton’s acquisition of Tango Gameworks and its intellectual property rights in August, a potential resurgence is possible.
Ultimately, it’s safe to say that the rhythm motion sequel may be a few steps off, yet, intriguingly enough, some fleeting details about what it will be like have surfaced nonetheless. According to a recent interview with GamesIndustry, Maria Park, Krafton’s head of company growth, confirmed that a sequel to the original game is indeed in development. Moreover, Tango Gameworks aims to create an even more expansive open-world experience compared to the first installment. According to Park, while the game may not feature an entirely open-world experience, players will still have the freedom to explore and uncover “significantly more dynamic” environments.
“From our initial meeting with the team, we saw that they were fully invested in Hello-Fi Rush 2,” she explained. “They must ensure that it exceeds the expectations of their loyal supporters.” Some critics suggested that Hello-Fi Rush’s initial pace was too methodical, merely gliding through factory levels without much exploration or discovery. While an entirely open-world experience may not be feasible, we can still create a highly dynamic and immersive atmosphere that unfolds as you play. The incorporation of advanced knowledge regarding rhythm and motion enables a seamless synchronization.
The Park clarified that Tango Gameworks already had a six-month-old foundation for the sequel established before the studio’s closure and subsequent acquisition by Krafton, which paused temporarily but will now rapidly pick up pace again.
The construction company we inspected had been roughly six months old when we met to finalize the project. While the negotiations for the IP acquisition are ongoing, the entire portfolio of related assets and intellectual property will be temporarily suspended, pending the transfer of ownership from Microsoft to Krafton. However, we’ll proceed aggressively with it from now on. Unlike we’ve stated before, we won’t hastily rush to market just to release a sequel, prioritizing quality over expediency instead. To guarantee a superior outcome, we must strive for an exceptional sequel that exceeds our team’s high standards.
