HellSweeper VR is boosting its cooperative capabilities to accommodate three players, and the developers are launching a two-week playtest period for both Quest and Steam platforms.
With the existing two-player cooperative mode already offering cross-platform compatibility since its initial release, HellSweeper VR is now poised to take things a step further by seamlessly integrating three players in real-time. Combined Realms will host a playtest to enhance “stability and efficiency” in its multiplayer mode, which can be played on Steam, Oculus Quest 2, and Quest 3 from November 25 to December 9.
While Combined Realms has verified that this playtest iteration does not fully encompass the wealth of fresh content slated for the impending update – including the newly introduced boss – it does, however, incorporate the recently touted game mode, as previously announced in the September post-launch roadmap update. Although the discussed gameplay mode also mentioned single-player assistance, unfortunately, it is not available in this build.
Will the unveiling of this new gameplay mode finally alleviate our concerns about co-op play, as first raised in our Hellsweeper VR review? We initially hailed the cooperative mode, or “co-op,” as a “welcome addition” last year; however, we were underwhelmed by the multiplayer aspect, which was “barely developed,” as it was limited to a single act rather than allowing players to engage with the full campaign.
While the initial playtesting phase will focus primarily on Quest and Steam releases, HellSweeper VR’s expanded reach will also include availability on PS VR2 and Pico platforms.
