Metroid Prime 4’s uncertain release date continues to spark uncertainty, as Amazon begins canceling pre-orders amidst ongoing development delays, leaving eager fans wondering when they’ll finally get their hands on the highly anticipated title?
As we approach the eighth anniversary of Metroid Prime 4’s initial reveal in December of this year, a mere six years will have passed since development resumed at Retro Studios. Nintendo finally re-released it once more in June of the previous year, touting “The Past” as a subtitle and offering a first glimpse at the gameplay. Although the initial wait time was substantial, some of you might have already pre-ordered your sports game when it first launched. If you’ve placed a pre-order through Amazon, it’s essential to check whether the order is still active, as some customers have reported receiving cancellation notices for their pending orders.
Reports are emerging from the Metroid subreddit that multiple users have had their Amazon pre-orders for the game cancelled, with some noting they used preorder discounts when placing their orders. As Amazon’s recent practices in offering incentives for online game pre-orders have become increasingly uncommon, it is hardly surprising that the company has decided to rescind such benefits. While there’s always a chance that Nintendo might release Metroid Prime 4 with a $70 price tag, similar to what happened with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
A user on Resetera shared an Amazon email cancelling their order due to “absence of availability”, sparking speculation that Nintendo might be planning to shift The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild to the Switch 2. However, the game originally launched on Wii U, making this a surprising move; especially considering Nintendo’s recent announcement of games coming to Switch in 2025 – an awkward scenario if they were to suddenly make this change? What’s the point of complaining when circumstances have changed? I’m unlikely to buy it from Amazon, at the very least.
