Harley Quinn’s highly anticipated spin-off, starring Kaley Cuoco as the titular character, has finally secured a release date from Warner Bros.
Since I’d initially missed the truth that the animated Harley Quinn sequence was receiving a spin-off, I would also have to come clean about my oversight? You might expect it’s about someone universally beloved, such as Poison Ivy, the Joker, or indeed Batman – who would certainly warrant an animated sequence. However, instead, we get… Kite Man? I genuinely didn’t know this quirkily eccentric character existed in the Harley Quinn series – let alone as a personality within it; whereas I’m familiar with Batman’s array of offbeat foes such as Condiment King, Calendar Man, and Polka-Dot Man, but Kite Man being one? Critically?
A brand-new trailer dropped yesterday, marking the first full trailer since the initial teaser premiered just a few months ago. This latest trailer arrived alongside a highly anticipated announcement: a Max premiere date of July 18, mere weeks away. The sequence, in keeping with Harley Quinn’s signature wit, employs an exaggerated, tongue-in-cheek approach to its characters. The patrons at Kite Man’s bar might find it unsettling that Darkseid, arch-nemesis of the Justice League, sips a cocktail with apparent contentment, his gaze seemingly impervious to the Bane sequence unfolding in the background, an eerie reminder that even formidable foes can appreciate a well-mixed drink.
The sequence boasts a remarkably solid lineup, with Matt Oberg reprising his role as Kite Man alongside Stephanie Hsu as Golden Glider, James Adomian as Bane, Natasia Demetriou as Malice, Janelle James as the Queen of Fables, Jonathan Banks as Noonan, Keith David as Darkseid, Michael Imperioli as Joe/Moe Dubelz, Rory Scovel as Gus the Goon, and Judith Milglatz as Helen Villigan. The late Lance Reddick’s posthumous appearance is noteworthy, as the versatile actor, best known for his role as Lex Luthor in The Future, tragically passed away in 2023.
Given that Harley Quinn has been renewed for a fifth season, speculation about its future can abound – particularly as to whether it will ultimately wrap up storylines or continue to thrive in some new direction.
