For nearly three years, Meta and Rockstar Games have collaborated on a dedicated VR version for the former’s digital reality headsets. Unfortunately, the project appears unlikely to revive its earlier promise, given the prolonged silence over the past three years.
Meta has announced in a press release to IGN that the development of its platform has been indefinitely suspended.
While Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas remains in indefinite maintenance, our focus shifts to distinct endeavors. “A collaboration with Rockstar Games could be on the horizon,” said a Meta spokesperson.
No definitive plans exist regarding the future prospects of these ventures; as things stand, there’s little indication they’ll resurface anytime soon, if at all.
It remains to be seen what implications this has for Take-Two Interactive’s future plans in the VR space. The corporation has shown interest in expanding its virtual reality footprint, albeit prioritizing maintenance; however, internal plans may have undergone revisions.
