While exploring vast open skies, the concept I’m most familiar with, beyond mere units, lies in the pride of soaring between floating celestial bodies and commandingly navigating one such island as your aerial vessel. You’re not merely assembling a vessel from scratch, nor is this a trivial task. Would you be transforming a tropical paradise into a massive, airborne vessel?

To reach these pristine native islands, gliding serves as the primary mode of transportation. If I’m being entirely truthful, the sensation of gliding feels somewhat underwhelming to me, the most vulnerable aspect of the overall experience. I struggled to master it for hours without success. Turning off the default Y-axis inversion proved to be a significant improvement, but I still found the steering to be counterintuitive. Getting between islands can work nicely enough; however, navigating larger islands with multiple tiers proves to be a more significant challenge. Despite initial challenges, I found myself on an island heavily infected by fungus, making it difficult to navigate until I successfully cleared the area by destroying the pesky myconid tree and its accompanying mobs using my trusty instruments. While I encountered occasional stock overload issues, I found value in purchasing core vibes directly – yet, I appreciate the methodology’s application to discovering smaller-scale recipe variations.
As I ventured in search of the final island for the tutorial quest, I found myself drawn to a mysterious fungal isle, only to have its inhabitants swarm me and leave me scarred. You’re limited to using a pickaxe as your primary weapon for the time being? As I stepped onto the secluded isle, the sport suddenly revitalized my spirits; it wasn’t just the initial starter island that sparked this epiphany, but rather a hidden gem nestled beside a miniature ship. As I had some time to spare, I was able to figure out strategies for eating to gain buffs and crafting a sword – and the bandages I found proved to be quite useful as well. There’s little punitive nature present in both scenarios.
While I didn’t delve extensively into the combat mechanics, I noticed that they needed to surpass simplistic “hit ’em with the sharp end” tactics; instead, I found myself gradually uncovering new moves and techniques as I progressed. So far, my trusty sword has proven capable of handling any challenge that comes its way, nonetheless.
Upon completing the questline and crafting an enchanting waterfall island with every amenity a skyship could desire, I was able to access the map, drop a waypoint, and set my vessel en route to a newly discovered biome – a process that took approximately 10 minutes to complete? While initially discovering new landscapes, fauna, and flora was a thrill, what truly excited me were the animal encounters, farm-to-table activities, and culinary experiences – all aspects often underwhelmingly present in typical survival games.
The newly introduced biome and island serve as another thrilling adventure, with UI prompts and my personally crafted nature journal encouraging me to eradicate diseased timber, discover additional fungal species, and rebalance the existing wildlife to restore the island’s delicate ecosystem. If this sounds familiar to MMO enthusiasts, it’s because an upcoming massively multiplayer online role-playing game shares a similar ecological theme; players will be tasked with restoring the corrupted and ravaged regions they discover. I devoted a significant amount of time to wandering around and sowing seeds.
