What’s the connection between you and this Arroyo challenge? A groundbreaking effort to reimagine Fallout 2 in Fallout 4’s robust engine is underway, with modders actively working towards this ambitious project. While no specific release date has been announced, the community is already treated to something truly exciting.
The Pip-Boy 2000, a classic Fallout icon, has been reimagined by the mod as its exact model. Those who cherish nostalgia for the series will likely find this interpretation irresistible at any price.
In the time since our last discussion on massive Fallout mods, notable examples include Fallout: London and the Fallout 1 remake mod, Fallout: Vault 13 – which launched a demo before suspending its development, leaving little news since then regarding the Challenge Arroyo team’s progress.
Although they’ve built upon the success of the mod’s re-creations of iconic Fallout 2 landmarks, introduced last year by allowing players to tinker with a crucial piece of equipment from the original game, they’re now giving you the opportunity to get up close and personal with it.
Modeled & animated by Fallout modding neighborhood staple Neeher – who we have beforehand spoken to about his work on Fallout: London, and with customized skins by Dorian, the ‘Challenge Arroyo – Pip-Boy 2000’ swaps out the Pip-Boy 3000 you may be used to in Fallout 4 for its a lot boxier Fallout 2 counterpart. You can access the full model via the hyperlink in the preceding sentence if you’re using a PC; alternatively, there is also a “lite” version available for Xbox users.
Modders have developed “a wide range of customizable options” for the 2000, including various skins to choose from and fresh animations, while also refining how the player’s character retrieves the device at Vault 111. Will we get to experience some retro console-style cartridge blowing, akin to the animation seen in Fallout: London’s Atta-Boy, before inserting it into your wrist-mounted vault storage?
The launch of this Pip-Boy has also included a trailer, crafted in classic Fallout style, just in case you’ve forgotten that PIP stands for Pocket Informant Program. As of now, the Challenge Arroyo team remains receptive to volunteer applications, inviting interested individuals to join their Discord server and submit a request form if they believe they possess the skills to contribute to the mod’s development.
